What should you do if your triglycerides are high?
If you check your cholesterol levels and blood pressure regularly, there is something else you might need to monitor- your triglycerides. Triglycerides are a type of lipid found in your blood and made by your liver. It is essential to have some triglycerides for good health. But, if you eat more calories than you burn, particularly from high-carbohydrate foods, you might have the problem of hypertriglyceridemia (high level of triglycerides). High triglycerides are usually caused by other conditions such as obesity, kidney disease, hypothyroidism, poorly-controlled diabetes and more. Having high triglycerides might raise the risk of heart diseases and a sign of the metabolic syndrome – a combination of high blood pressure, excess fat around the waist, low HDL and high triglycerides that increase your risk of heart conditions and diabetes.
